A 10-year-old Merseyside football fan has impressed friends by winning a sleepover with the FA Cup.

Daniel Griffin, from Formby, spent almost 24 hours with the famous trophy after entering a prize draw.

The Everton fan, who plays for Formby Junior Sports Club, said he had been "lifting it and putting it on my head".

The FA said the competition was launched to introduce "a new generation to the magic of the world's oldest domestic football competition".

Former Everton striker Graeme Sharp presented Daniel with the trophy. Sharp scored during Everton's 2-0 win over Watford in the 1984 FA Cup Final.

Two security guards also accompanied the trophy during its stay at the house.

The schoolboy added: "We haven't been to sleep because the FA Cup has been in our house".
