Before, during and after: Southern storms

Before, during and after: Southern storms

Before and after images highlight the scale of the bad weather which has afflicted the south and west of England in particular over recent days.

Porthleven, Cornwall

In Porthleven, Cornwall, massive waves overwhelmed the sea wall and caused a number of boats in the harbour to sink.

Slapton, Devon

In Slapton, Devon, the main road between Torcross and Dartmouth has been "resurfaced" with sand and stones, washed up from the beach by waves.

Destroyed railway line, Dawlish

In Dawlish, further up the coast, massive waves smashed parts of the sea wall and washed away the railway track bed, leaving lines suspended in mid-air.

Brighton

Waves also pounded the sea front in Brighton, pictured here from the pier.

Fordgate, Somerset

Flooding on the Somerset Levels, which has now lasted several weeks, continues to cause misery with further evacuations ordered. The image above shows a property in Fordgate, near Bridgwater.
