Pupils at Benefits Street school being 'stigmatised'

A school in Birmingham has written to the education secretary claiming pupils are being stigmatised by a TV documentary about a street nearby.

James Turner Street in Winson Green is the focus of the Channel Four documentary series, Benefits Street.

The principal at the nearby Oasis Foundry Academy, Emma Johnson, said the programme was hindering the education of children there.

More than 55,000 people have signed a petition to get Benefits Street taken off the air.

Channel Four said the programme was "fair and balanced".
