Four men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who tried to defend his wife from attack in St Lucia.

Roger Pratt, 62, from Warwickshire, was killed and his wife Margaret injured when armed men boarded their yacht off the town of Vieux Fort.

A Royal St Lucia Police Force spokesman said the defendants appeared at court charged with murder and robbery.

They are due to appear again on 4 February, Associated Press said.

Earlier St Lucia Police told the BBC five men had been charged.

Mr and Mrs Pratt, 60, of Moreton Paddox, were celebrating Mrs Pratt's birthday when the attack happened on 17 January.

Members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club, the couple set sail from Lowestoft, Suffolk, in June on a round-the-world voyage.
