Children and mother stabbed in Birmingham house
Police have closed off Little Heath Lane, the scene of the attack A mother and her two daughters aged 16 and 10 have been stabbed in what police say was a "tragic family incident" in Birmingham.
The 17-year-old brother of the girls was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called to a house in Little Green Lane, Small Heath, at 07:20 GMT.
A neighbour raised the alarm after hearing screams from the family home.
The girls are in a serious condition in hospital, West Midlands Police said.
Their mother, in her 40s, is in a stable condition.
'Lady screaming'The woman and the 16-year-old were found with multiple knife wounds inside the house, while the 10-year-old was found on the pavement outside, also with multiple stab injuries.
A baby girl found unharmed inside the house is currently being cared for by family members.
The boy was arrested in the street and police found a knife nearby.
Forensic investigations are taking place at the house "This appears to be a contained, domestic incident. One man was arrested outside the address and we are not actively seeking anyone else in connection with the incident," Ch Insp Jack Hadley said.
Police have cordoned off Little Green Lane to allow forensic investigations to take place and to make space for an air ambulance to land.
Part of Wyndcliffe Primary School, which is next to the house in Little Green Lane, has been closed for the day.
The school's Oakley site, which holds nursery and reception classes, has been shut, Birmingham City Council said.
Neighbour Jeff Wood said he had seen the woman holding the baby, and what he thought was blood on the baby's neck.
"It's a shock - it was the lady screaming that woke me up… I got my trousers on and ran straight up there," Mr Wood said.
"You don't expect things like that to happen around here."
