Kim Kallstrom: Arsenal signing injured back in beach game
By David OrnsteinBBC Sport
New Arsenal signing Kim Kallstrom faces a spell on the sidelines with a back injury discovered in the medical before he signed on loan from Spartak Moscow.
Midfielder Kallstrom, 31, is set to miss at least six games.
The Swede was hurt on Tuesday while playing football on a beach during Spartak's pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi.
He told Arsenal of his discomfort on arrival at the club on Friday but despite an MRI scan showing no damage, a CT scan found an issue with his back.
The Arsenal medical team provided manager Arsene Wenger with the prognosis, but it was decided Kallstrom would still join and undergo his rehabilitation with the Gunners.
He is expected to miss at least Arsenal's next six matches, in which they face Crystal Palace, Liverpool twice, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Sunderland.
Kallstrom did not train with his new team-mates on Friday or Saturday and will briefly return to Sweden and Russia before moving to London and beginning a course of treatment.
The former Lyon player, Arsenal's only signing in the January transfer window, joined on loan until the end of the season to provide cover for injured midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, plus the suspended Mathieu Flamini.
Leeds United: Brian McDermott 'remains' as manager
Leeds have said Brian McDermott will stay as manager, a day after the club's prospective new owner Massimo Cellino reportedly told him he would be sacked.
Cagliari owner Cellino has agreed to buy a 75% stake in Leeds, subject to the deal being approved.
“The club would like to make it clear that Brian McDermott remains our first-team manager. He has not been dismissed from his post as has been suggested.”
Leeds statement
But, after a 5-1 win over Huddersfield, the club stated that McDermott would remain in charge at Elland Road.
"The club would like to make it clear that Brian McDermott remains our first-team manager," a Leeds statement said.
"He has not been dismissed from his post as has been suggested. We look forward to him continuing in his role with us in taking Leeds forward."
McDermott's assistant manager Nigel Gibbs was in charge for the win over Huddersfield, which ended an eight-match winless run for the team who are now 11th in the Championship.
On Friday McDermott, who was appointed as manager in April 2013, thanked Leeds fans for their support, describing them as "amazing" after being told he was sacked.
Former Middlesbrough player Gianluca Festa was linked with the position.
On Saturday, outgoing owners GFH Capital released a statement confirming the sale had been agreed but did not go into detail about the management of the club.
The statement read: "Following recent media reports and speculation, GFH Capital would like to confirm that it has agreed to sell a 75% stake in the club to Eleonora Sport Ltd, a company owned by the Cellino family.
"They have many years experience in football and plan to invest substantially in the club including the re-acquisition of Elland Road.
"The Cellino family come to English football with an ambition to support Leeds United financially to take it to the Premier League and a belief that the club can sustain top-flight status."
Dubai-based private equity group GFH Capital purchased the club for a reported £52m from Ken Bates in December 2012.
In an interview with the Sporting Intelligence website late on Friday, Cellino, the 57-year-old owner of Italian Serie A side Cagliari, said he had "no choice" but to sack McDermott. "I want a coach for the club, not a manager," he said.
"Gianluca [Festa] is a nice guy but he wasn't in my plans before all of this. Leeds are a special club who have had difficult times. But what is beyond question is that the club's fans are very, very special."
'Spanish' cat found in Scottish garage reunited with her owner
The shorthaired tabby was named 'Juanita' after she was found to have been microchipped on the Spanish island of Fuerteventura
A cat microchipped in Spain which was found in a garage in Aberdeenshire has been reunited with her owner.
Shorthaired tabby Tina, found in Muchalls on Thursday, was registered in Las Palmas in Fuerteventura.
The phone number on record was disconnected and it was suspected the owner may have emigrated to the UK and not updated the address details.
A ring-round of vets by Cats Protection led to one recognising the owner and the pair were reunited.
The owner, Fiona Prati, used to live in Fuerteventura and now stays in Bridge of Don.
Tina went missing from her home last week and it is thought that she hopped a ride on a vehicle and travelled 30 miles to Muchalls.
The tabby has been looked after at Kirkton Vets since being found in a family's garage and was reunited with her owner by vet Fiona MacPherson on Saturday.
Ms MacPherson said: "We were delighted when Fiona came to collect her and we're so pleased that we were able to help reunite them.
"Fiona even heard the story on the radio as she was driving to collect Tina. She told us how pleased she was that Tina was ok as she had feared the worst."
'Unusual case'
Zahir White, from Cats Protection, said: "It is great news that Tina's owner has been found and we're happy we were able to play a part in reuniting them.
"Every week we help to reunite 50 lost cats with their owners across the UK and this is one of the most unusual cases we have come across.
"It is always heart-breaking when a much-loved cat goes missing and the owner never knows what became of them. Cases like this show how important it is to get cats microchipped and keep the microchip details up-to-date."
After seeing the story on the BBC, a Fuerteventura-based cat charity contacted Cats Protection offering to check the animal's registration details against its own records.
Twinkle Trust, which organises the sterilisation of stray cats by volunteer vets from the UK and Fuerteventura, has rehomed more than 100 in the UK since 1995.
Three questioned as Lagmore estate security alert ends
Police at the scene of the alert in Lagmore
Residents have been allowed to return home following the end of a security alert in Lagmore, on the outskirts of west Belfast.
A suspicious object was discovered close to a children's playpark at White Rise in the estate at about midnight. Police have not said what was found.
Three men were later arrested nearby in an operation linked to the alert.
About a dozen families who were moved during the night took shelter in a community centre.
It was snowing as they left their homes, and Sinn Féin councillor David Bell said it had been a traumatic experience for them.
"From what I've gathered, the object was left where anyone could pick it up," he said.
"Obviously we have to find out if it's a viable device or not but, regardless, given the extremely cold night that people had to leave their homes - this is elderly people, and children - the people in the area are deeply frustrated."
Meanwhile in north Belfast, a security alert at Hillview Road has ended. A police spokesman said "nothing untoward" was found.

Volcano Sinabung: Deadly eruption on Indonesian island Sumatra
1 February 2014 Last updated at 16:20 GMT
A volcano has erupted on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, engulfing villages in hot ash and killing at least 14 people.
Charles Scanlon reports on an eruption which spewed ash and hot rocks 2km (1.5 miles) into the air and "seems to have taken the local communities by surprise".
Number 10 rejects Ofsted chair's claims it is ousting non-Tories from key posts
Baroness Morgan was a close aide to Tony Blair
Downing Street has said it makes appointments "on merit", following claims Number 10 is ousting non-Tory supporters from public posts.
Baroness Morgan, the outgoing chair of Ofsted, said she was the victim of a "determined effort from Number 10" to appoint more Tories.
The Labour peer said her removal - from the autumn- was part of a "pattern".
The decision not to renew her term of office was made by Education Secretary Michael Gove, Downing Street said.
A Number 10 spokesman said: "Michael Gove has thanked Sally Morgan for her effective and long service as chair of Ofsted.
"The decision not to reappoint her was his decision.
"This government appoints people on merit: For example, Sally Morgan was herself appointed under this government; and the former Labour adviser Simon Stevens is about to take up the post of Chief Executive of NHS England.
"We have also asked former Labour cabinet ministers to carry out independent reviews on key public policy issues, including Alan Milburn on social mobility and John Hutton on public service pensions."
'Co-operative relationship'
The statement was made following the claims made by Baronnes Morgan.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, she said: "There is an absolutely determined effort from Number 10 that Conservative supporters will be appointed to public bodies."
There had been a "strong and co-operative relationship" between herself, ministers and officials, she said, denying there had been any kind of "falling out".
Baroness Morgan said her removal was part of a pattern which had seen a series of non-Conservative supporters on bodies like the Arts Council and the Charity Commission replaced with loyal Tories.
She said the impetus behind the appointments appeared to come from No 10.
"I really do think it's just I am the latest of a fairly long list of people now who are non-Conservative supporters who are not being re-appointed," she said.
Baroness Morgan, a former close aide to Tony Blair, said there was "absolutely a pattern", adding: "I think it's extremely worrying."
She was appointed by the coalition in 2010 as head of the education inspectorate for England.
The Government has said it appoints people on merit, following Baroness Morgan's claims
'Great knowledge'
Baroness Morgan said she believed the move was not specifically against Labour, but against those who did not support the Conservatives, and added: "I think there's a lot of concern about it.
"Often they are people who have been working really well with their organisations and, indeed, with their host departments, so I do think this is coming from Number 10.
"I don't think it is coming from individual departments."
Baroness Morgan told Radio 4 the issue needs to be looked at by the cabinet secretary, the most senior civil servant, and the cabinet office.
"One of the really important things about public appointments is that they are made on the basis of merit and they are seen to be transparently made," she said. "I think there's something going on in the centre that's mitigating against that."
Mr Gove said: "She has brought great knowledge and insight, leading the board strongly through a period of significant change, both managing the smooth transition when there were changes in chief inspector, and leading the reforms to the inspectorate and its work.
"I hope that she continues to play an active role in helping to shape the education landscape to improve standards for all children and young people."
'Lack of plurality'
The education secretary earlier denied claims by Sir Michael Wilshaw, the chief inspector of schools in England, that the Department for Education had briefed against Ofsted.
Shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt told the BBC: "I think the prime minister has a particular problem with women in public life from non-Conservative backgrounds."
Mr Hunt said the Conservative party had shown "a worrying lack of plurality in public appointments".
He added: "Downing Street are very keen to get their own people onto public boards and the secretary of state for education should have stood up for Sally Morgan.
"He should have stood up for a good public appointment rather than give in to party political games from Downing Street."
In a statement, Ofsted said Baroness Morgan's term of office "has been extended until the autumn of 2014 by the secretary of state while the process is put in place to find a successor".
The Independent also reported that the deputy prime minister has complained to the cabinet secretary about Conservatives making "party political" appointments.
When King Ludwig I of Bavaria opened his magnificent hotel in Munich in 1841 he said he wanted "a comfortable place for the guests to stay".
He could not have imagined the sumptuous setting of his Bayerischer Hof would one day provide an elegant stage for a war of words over Ukraine.
In public sessions and in private meetings, the diplomatic and political battle for Ukraine is one of the key issues taking centre stage as the Munich Security Conference marks its 50th year.
John Kerry spoke of a 'fight for democracy' in Ukraine
One of the premier gatherings on the calendar of the world's security chiefs and top diplomats has brought protagonists from all sides to the heart of Munich as the tug of war over Kiev's allegiances are fought with such shocking brutality on the streets of Kiev that they have been likened to medieval battles.
US Secretary of State John Kerry called it a "fight for democracy. "
"While there are unsavoury elements on the streets in any chaotic situation, the vast vast majority of Ukrainians want to live freely in a safe, prosperous country," he explained to the packed main conference hall.
Offer on the table
Less than an hour before, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov used the same podium to throw a question to the floor: "What does incitement of violent street protests have to do with the promotion of democracy?"
And in case there was any doubt about the West's commitment to Ukraine, the morning began with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy announcing: "The future of Ukraine belongs with the European Union."
"The offer is still on the table," he said.
Last year an EU association accord was ditched by President Victor Yanukovych, following financial support and pressure from Moscow which is keen to keep its former Cold War ally in its fold.
Sergei Lavrov accused the West of hypocrisy
Ukrainian opposition leaders have come to Munich to say to their Western supporters that words, however welcome, are not enough.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk told me they were asking for a "Marshall Plan not Martial Law" - which he feared could be imposed by the government.
He spoke of an economy "in meltdown" and a political system with a constitution which gave the president powers that resembled "a dictator's powers not a "freely elected President".
There was, he warned, "a very high risk of increasing tension".
'Coup threat'
This week Ukraine's defence ministry, in a rare statement, called on the president to stabilise the situation and warned of the possibility of the country's break-up.
Mr Yatsenyuk called it a threatened coup, and warned that "those responsible for it can easily get a one-way ticket to The Hague". In other words, it would be tantamount to war crime.
A condemnation and a caution has also come from Nato Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
He told me that he "strongly regretted the use of excessive force by Ukrainian security forces". He also underlined that the terms of a Nato-Ukrainian Commission required "the military to stay neutral".
Neutrality is missing in Munich as rival sides ratchet up the rhetoric.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara is also here with a very different narrative of his country's dramatic descent into violence.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk dismissed him as a "speech master." But, in the spirit of security conference, the foreign minister was also due to have his say.
