Man charged with prison officer David Black murder

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of prison officer David Black.

Mr Black, a 52-year-old father of two, was shot dead on the M1 motorway in County Armagh as he drove to work at Maghaberry Prison in November 2012.

He was the 31st member of the prison service to be killed in Northern Ireland, but it was the first such murder in almost 20 years.

The man is to appear in court in Craigavon on Wednesday.

He has also been charged with possession of a gun with intent to endanger life.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland thanked their colleagues in the Garda, the Republic of Ireland's police force, for their help in the investigation which spanned the two jurisdictions..
