Janet Yellen will be the first woman to lead the central bank in its 100 year history The US Senate has confirmed Janet Yellen as the next head of the US Federal Reserve.
It was the last procedural hurdle Ms Yellen faced before taking over from outgoing chair Ben Bernanke on 1 February 2014.
She will be the first woman to lead the central bank in its 100-year history.
