Cambuslang 2 Sisters chicken plant to create 180 new jobs
Round-the-clock working was said to be key to the Cambuslang expansion The owner of a chicken processing plant near Glasgow has said they intend to take on an additional 180 workers.
The 2 Sisters Food Group said it had reached agreement with the Unite union over round-the-clock working at Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire.
Its factory there cooks and processes chicken products and will undergo a "multi-million pound" expansion.
The company announced in November 2013 that it was planning to cut 200 jobs at its plant in Coupar Angus, Tayside.
It kills and packs raw chicken, for which demand is understood to be falling.
The investment in Cambuslang is to include an 11,000 sq ft extension to the plant. It will house two modern high-volume ovens, spiral chillers and freezers.
Olivier Goudineau, managing director of 2 Sisters Added Value poultry, said: "We're delighted to have come to an agreement with the unions and extended our working hours at the factory.
"This has unlocked the expansion plan and in turn means we can take on 180 additional colleagues.
"A lot of hard work has gone into realising this opportunity and it's a great example of working together to achieve our aims. "
