Research 'changing the treatment of cancer'

There is a growing realisation among experts that cancer is developing resistance to the treatments currently being used to combat it.

This is leading to a fundamental rethink of the way the field is being researched.

The Today programme's Tom Feilden visited The Institute of Cancer Research's new Centre for Evolution and Cancer to see how the problem is being tackled.

Chief clinician for Cancer Research UK Peter Johnson also spoke to Justin Webb about the centre.

He said: "Research really is changing the way that we are treating cancer these days."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 28 January 2014.
