Manchester City moved above opponents Liverpool up to second in the Premier League with an entertaining comeback win at the Etihad Stadium.

All the goals were scored in the first half as Liverpool, who were top of the league at the start of the day, led from Philippe Coutinho's calm finish.

Vincent Kompany equalised with a near-post header from David Silva's corner.

City won after Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet allowed Alvaro Negredo's poked shot through his grasp.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling wasted the away side's best chance of an equaliser, firing wildly over the home crossbar.

City are one point behind new leaders Arsenal, who won 3-1 at West Ham, with Liverpool dropping to fourth behind Chelsea.

The Blues beat Swansea, meaning just three points separate the top four.
