The mother of Reeva Steenkamp said she attended the first day of the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius because it was important that he saw her in court.

But she said he walked straight past her in the courtroom on Monday, denying her the opportunity to look him in the eye.

In a TV interview, June Steenkamp said she wanted the truth about what happened on the night her daughter was killed, adding that it was important to forgive the South African athlete.

Mr Pistorius has pleaded not guilty to intentionally killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
