Teenage girl shot dead in London

A teenage girl thought to be aged about 15 has been shot dead in east London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Police were called shortly before 16: 00 GMT to an address in Eastway, Hackney.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Three youths aged under 18 were arrested nearby and taken into custody at an east London police station.

Officers attended the scene, together with London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

Post-mortem examination

Police believe they know the identity of the girl, and have begun informing family. They are awaiting formal identification.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held.

In a statement the Metropolitan Police said detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command unit were investigating.

"Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident," a spokesman said.
