US attorney general goes to hospital

US Attorney General Eric Holder admitted to hospital

Attorney General Eric Holder appeared in Washington DC on 30 September 2013 Eric Holder has been promoted by both Republican and Democrat presidents in the course of his career

The top law enforcement official in the US has been taken to hospital as a precaution after experiencing faintness and shortness of breath at work.

Officials say Attorney General Eric Holder is now "resting comfortably" and conversing with doctors.

He is being treated in a Washington hospital after suffering from the symptoms during a Thursday morning meeting with senior staff.

The White House says President Obama wishes Mr Holder a "speedy recovery".

The justice department says that 63-year-old is undergoing further evaluation. No additional information was immediately provided.

The attorney general represents the US in legal matters and gives advice and opinions to the president and government heads.

He also oversees the work of attorneys throughout America.
