Parts of the north-eastern United States and Canada are bracing themselves for more heavy snow and freezing temperatures as forecasters warn the winter storm is likely to continue throughout the weekend.

Some coastal areas have been battered by strong winds, with the military deployed to assist where properties have been flooded.

Forecasters are predicting that parts of the Mid-West could see record low temperatures in the coming days.
