City search for teenager stepped up

Search in Newport stepped up for missing Nida Ul-Naseer

Nida Ul-Naseer Nida Ul-Naseer has not been seen since 28 December

Police have launched a large-scale operation including sniffer dogs and up to 40 officers to search for a missing 18-year-old woman in Newport.

Nida Ul-Naseer was last seen taking out rubbish at her home in Linton Street at about 20:00 GMT on 28 December.

Gwent Police searched open areas around Ms Ul-Naseer's home in rain on Wednesday.

The search resumed on Thursday with officers making house-to-house inquiries.

Police are worried because she does not have her medication with her and is likely to become anaemic without it.

They have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have any information regarding the teenager's whereabouts to come forward.

'No motive'

When she was last seen Ms Ul-Naseer was wearing jeans and a black top.

She is slim, of Asian-Pakistani appearance, has long dark hair, and is 5ft 3in (1.6m) tall.

Ch Insp Daniel Taylor, who is leading the search operation, said both police and her family were increasingly concerned for her welfare.

"No motive has been found to explain the teenager's disappearance," he said.

"As far as we understand it she went out to the bins at the premises. That was the last time she was seen.

"There is no forensic evidence that she has been taken."

Gwent Police have asked anyone with information to contact 101 quoting log number 448 28/12/13.
