Police officer Christopher Semak jailed for sexual activity with girl, 14
A police officer who engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for six years.
Christopher Semak, 33, from Kings Norton in Birmingham, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
He was found guilty of three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child from April 2010 to November 2011 at Stafford Crown Court.
Semak was suspended by the West Midlands force in April 2012.
Police said Semak, who became a police officer in 2010, was arrested at his home after the girl confided in a teacher.
'Disgraceful actions'At his trial, the court heard detectives examined hundreds of text messages and emails between Semak and the girl, some of which contained explicit content.
After sentencing, a West Midlands Police spokesman said that all Semak's offences took place while he was off duty.
Det Supt Tim Bacon said it was "clear that [Semak] groomed the victim for his own sexual gratification".
"His actions were disgraceful for any person let alone a man who, when he became a police officer, swore an oath to protect people.
"I hope that he will reflect on his actions and the emotional scars he inflicted on his victim and those around him."
The force spokesman added that Semak's case would now go before a special police disciplinary panel to decide whether the officer should be sacked.
