China arrests over explosion at 'gambling spot'

Chinese police have arrested eight people over an explosion at a village in Guizhou province that killed at least 15 people, state media report.

The explosion took place on Monday afternoon at a remote mountain slope at a village in Kaili City, Xinhua said. Eight people were reportedly injured.

The blast is thought to have taken place at an illegal gambling site on the hill, Xinhua said, citing police.

Police are investigating the cause of the explosion.

Initial investigations suggested the blast was "a man-made criminal case", state-run newspaper Global Times reported, citing the local publicity department.

Gambling is illegal in mainland China.
